Breastfeeding Profiles

The data and indicators on this page are no longer being updated. More recent data is available in the child and maternal health section on PHE’s Fingertips tool.

The Breastfeeding Profiles for local areas show performance against a range of indicators describing demographic, breastfeeding behaviour and health outcome data for mothers and their children.

The following short guides will help you in using and interpreting the profiles:

These profiles were developed building on the experience of the London project described below.

London breastfeeding services mapping project

The London breastfeeding services mapping project was commissioned in 2009 by the Regional Public Health Group, Department of Health London. The Mother and Infant Research Unit at the University of York undertook the project in collaboration with Children's Services Mapping (CSM) and ChiMat.

The report's authors are Lisa Dyson, Felicia McCormick and Professor Mary Renfrew (Mother and Infant Research Unit, University of York) and Professor Francesca Entwistle (Department of Health). Information about service provision in London was collated by CSM. ChiMat then matched this with demographical and outcome data to create a full picture of what was happening in each PCT.
